You are bound to have lots of questions about your Invisalign treatment. We have listed some of the most frequently asked questions and answers below. If you have a question that isn’t on the list, please contact us as we are always more than happy to answer queries about Invisalign.

Who Can Have Invisalign?

Invisalign is often a suitable solution for adults and teens. It can correct most of the common bite issues and tooth alignment problems and is easy to use. Teen aligners have a blue dot that fades with use, so it is easy for parents to check their child is wearing their aligners correctly.

Should I Wear My Sports Mouthguard During Invisalign Treatment?

Invisalign aligners are designed to straighten your teeth but do not protect them during sports and do not perform the same function as a sports mouthguard. If you usually wear a sports mouthguard, it’s best to remove your aligners before playing sports and wear your sports mouthguard as usual. Your sports mouthguard will protect your teeth while you play and helps to prevent your aligners from becoming damaged. Make sure you replace your aligners as soon as possible after playing.

Can I Play an Instrument with Invisalign?

Even though Invisalign aligners are very thin, they may affect your ability to play a brass or woodwind instrument. Therefore, it is best to remove them while you play your instrument, but please make sure you replace the aligners as soon as possible, as ideally, they should be worn all the time.

Can I Still Kiss When Wearing My Aligners?

Invisalign aligners are barely noticeable, so there’s a good chance your kissing partner will not notice any difference. If they do notice something, just explain it’s easier and more comfortable to kiss with the aligners in place. Because the aligners are smooth and closely fitted to your teeth, they will not dislodge while you kiss. Once you become accustomed to kissing wearing your aligners, you both most likely will not notice any difference.
Although it may be tempting to remove them while kissing, we’d prefer it if you didn’t. Ideally, the aligners should only be removed on very special occasions. You must keep them in for as long as possible each day to get the best results. Remember, plenty of people still kiss while they wear fixed braces that are often far bulkier and much more noticeable.

Will My Aligners Affect My Speech?

Any new dental appliance feels a bit strange initially, and your tongue needs time to get accustomed to your aligners. You may have a slight lisp on the first day or two of treatment, but this should typically disappear once you become accustomed to wearing the aligners.

Do Aligners Smell?

Invisalign aligners are made from odor-free and taste-free plastic and should not smell. If your aligners do develop a nasty smell, it means you are not caring for them correctly and are not cleaning your trays or teeth thoroughly. Increasing the frequency of your tooth brushing and tray cleaning routine should eliminate the smell.

Will I Have Bad Breath during Treatment?

You shouldn’t have bad breath during treatment and especially because you will be cleaning your teeth more frequently than usual. If you do develop bad breath, it’s most likely that you need to review your oral care routine. You should be brushing your teeth several times a day during Invisalign treatment, so your breath should be fresher than with a normal oral care routine where you just brush twice daily.

Can I Have Invisalign If I Have Crowns or Veneers?

If you have crowns or veneers, we will need to evaluate your teeth carefully. We will need to assess your dental work to determine if it could interfere with Invisalign treatment or vice versa.

Can I Have Invisalign If I Have a Dental Bridge?

Invisalign aligners are designed to move individual teeth. A dental bridge connects two or more teeth together, so treatment may not be suitable.

Can I Have Invisalign Treatment after Wearing Conventional Braces?

If you currently wear fixed braces, it is sometimes possible to switch treatment to Invisalign. If you perhaps had fixed braces during childhood but have seen your tooth positions shift, Invisalign could help you. Many people have had what’s called an orthodontic relapse after wearing fixed braces as a child and use Invisalign to correct this problem, discreetly moving teeth back to their proper positions.

How Much Does Invisalign Treatment Cost?

Generally, the cost of Invisalign treatment is similar to braces. The actual cost depends on the complexity of your treatment and the number of aligners required.

Does Dental Insurance Cover Invisalign?

Your dental insurance may pay a percentage of Invisalign treatment as many policies now cover Invisalign the same way they cover conventional braces.

Will I Need Retainers After Treatment?

After completing your Invisalign treatment, you will need to wear retainers. This is necessary after any form of orthodontic treatment and prevents teeth from returning to their original positions. Invisalign retainers are made from the same clear plastic material, so they are extremely discreet. We can provide Invisalign retainers and will discuss how frequently you must wear them.

Patient REVIEWS

  • Melissa Russo “amazing service and quality work” ★★★★★

I have been going to Gentle Dental for over 10 years. I always get amazing service and quality work. The staff is always friendly and I love that every step and detail is explained for all procedures. They really take the time to thoroughly examine you and for the most part everything I have had done was pain free. Patient’s comfort is their #1 concern. Most people don’t like to go to the dentist and don’t because of the discomfort involved. That has never been a problem here. I moved away 5 years ago but I still will drive 40 minutes to Queens to see this dentist because I like them that much. Highly recommend.

  • Mariya Aranbayeva “an excellent experience” ★★★★★

Dr. Ilyabaev is one of the best dentist I have ever had the pleasure of being a patient of. Not just for people who are VERY fearful of getting dental work done like myself, but also because he is a grade A professional at his craft. I Went into his office and was greeted by a VERY friendly staff and felt comfortable through the entire process. He knew I had a bad fear so he talked me through the whole thing and made me feel comfortable throughout the whole process .. I had such an excellent experience with him I plan to go back and get all the necessary work finished. I look forward to my next appointment!

  • R. Colon “The service and care is exceptional” ★★★★★

I moved a good distance away. As a result I visited multiple dentist near my new location because of my work schedule. Needless to say, I regreted it. I have began going to gentle dental once again, the staff are very accomodating. The service and care is exceptional. The oral surgeon is by far one of the best, if not the best I have ever had the pleasure of have work done by. They are very attentive and follow up vicariously. Very professional and proficient. Thank you Gentle dental for not holding any grudges because of my disloyalty. Just kidding, but thank you sincerely…

  • Gary Pyatigorsky “highly recommend Gentle Dental” ★★★★★

After days of constant throbbing pain and sleepless nights. I asked my friends if they knew any good dentist. I was recommended that I go to the Gentle Dental to have the work done. Dr. Ilyabayev was assigned to my case and he put me at ease almost immediately. It might’ve been his friendly attitude or the fact that he covered the steps of the procedure and made sure that I understood what he was telling me. He asked me if i had any questions or concerns. The extraction went according to plan without any complications. I was finally pain free and able to eat and drink without any pain. I highly recommend Gentle Dental to anyone. The professionalism, competence and care given is superb and the cost is reasonable. Thank you again for everything
